Regional museum Binntal
Opened in 1983, the museum presented archaeological finds and minerals from the Binntal valley as well as parts of the ethnological collection of archaeologist and ethnologist Gerd Graeser (1929-2016) until the summer of 2023. In 2021, the Graeser-Andenmatten Foundation, the Binntal Landscape Park and the municipality of Binn decided to comprehensively modernise the museum concept, renovate the exhibition rooms and use part of the exhibition space for temporary exhibitions in future. The remodelling will take place in stages in 2024 and 2025.
The first temporary exhibition, a photo exhibition with night landscapes from the Binntal valley by French photographer Régis Feugère, will open in December 2024. This will be followed in May 2025 by an exhibition on the subject of light pollution in the attic. Finally, from the end of 2025, the historical collections will also return to the museum: the archaeological collection and the Lengenbach minerals will move to the basement, while the Graeser-Andenmatten collection will move to the top floor in changing thematic presentations. In future, the new Binntal Regional Museum will not only be an exhibition centre for historical collections, but also a lively place for exploring regional history, art, culture and current social issues - a place of learning, reflection and participation that connects the past with the present and the future.
