That's all I needed!

The Graeser-Andenmatten Collection

When archaeologist and ethnologist Gerd Graeser established ‘his’ museum in 1983, he selected what he considered to be the most important objects in his collection. Organised into seven thematic sections, these objects shaped the museum's permanent exhibition for 40 years. After his death in 2016, Gerd Graeser left the foundation a large number of other historical everyday objects. Although many of them have no direct connection to the Binntal valley, they nevertheless have an interesting history that is worth telling. From the end of May 2026, the Graeser-Andenmatten Collection will therefore return to the attic of the renovated museum in a new presentation. The exhibition will be semi-permanent, meaning that the selection of objects will be changed and rearranged in the coming years, depending on the thematic focus.

The first selection focuses on the phenomenon of collecting in general and on Gerd Graeser's passion for collecting in particular. It shows the richness and diversity of the collection, which is a great gift for the regional museum, but also a challenge. The exhibition title can therefore be understood in its ambiguity. Various thematic tours guide visitors through the exhibition and offer new perspectives on old objects.

The Binntal Regional Museum collaborated with the least association and the Valais artist collective Facteur to select the objects for the exhibition. The exhibition will open on 30 May 2026.
