Media release — Bus alpin sets all-time record
For 20 years, the Bus alpin association has been working with regional partners to make tourist attractions accessible by public transport. During the 2025 summer season, more people than ever before were transported. A total of 110,081 people used the regional bus services, which is an increase of 5.5 per cent compared to the previous record year of 2023 and an increase of 13.2 per cent compared to the previous year.
Launched in winter 2005/2006 with the ‘snow bus’ in the Gantrisch Nature Park, Bus alpin now operates in 18 mountain regions. During the summer season, all member regions offer guests an alternative to travelling by private car. In winter, the environmentally friendly Bus alpin operates in seven regions. The association's president, Thomas Egger from the Swiss Working Group for Mountain Regions (SAB), is delighted with the development in passenger numbers: "Unlike buses on everyday routes, passenger numbers on tourist-oriented public transport services are primarily dependent on the weather. As the weather in the summer half-year of 2025 was mixed, we are pleasantly surprised by this record result. The Bus alpin is clearly becoming increasingly popular. The consistent development of services – most recently, for example, through the integration of the first buses into the national direct transport network with partial validity of public transport season tickets – is now bearing fruit."
Seven services available when the new timetable comes into effect
Environmentally conscious guests will not have to completely forego the Alpine bus service during the 2025/2026 winter season: from Sunday, 14 December 2025, buses will take winter enthusiasts to ski resorts, cross-country ski trails, snowshoe trails and toboggan runs. Winter services are available in the Chasseral Nature Park, the Gantrisch Nature Park, the Habkern-Lombachalp region above Interlaken, the Moosalp region above Visp and the Gruyère Pays-d'Enhaut Nature Park. Buses run all year round in the Jura vaudois Nature Park and the Schaffhausen Nature Park.
