Figues
Fig jam made from Valais fruit has a complex flavour that depends on the variety of fig. The primary note is a natural sweetness, often described as honey-like. Some varieties also have a slightly tart note. The many small seeds in the flesh are characteristic and create an interesting mouthfeel. The colour ranges from a deep amber red to a dark purple, depending on the variety. Fig jam is a classic spread for bread. It goes particularly well with a cheese platter featuring soft or hard cheeses. It can also be used in pastries, desserts or as an accompaniment to grilled meat.
