Experience Twingi: Geology
The wild Twingi Gorge has cut into vertically placed slate rocks - so-called "Bündnerschiefer". You will get to know these rocks with their minerals and their formation. In addition, we also encounter some erratic blocks.
The wild Twingi Gorge is one of the most impressive natural landscapes in the Binntal Landscape Park. The Binna and the former Ice Age glaciers ate their way along a zone of weakness through the almost vertically placed slate rocks. Thus, through the Twingi, one can hike a natural transverse profile through this so-called "Rosswald series". The rocks belong to the "Bündnerschiefern". These build up the entire northern mountains of the Binntal.
You can get to grips with these rocks in peace and quiet, armed with a hammer and magnifying glass. You will get to know the minerals they are made of. You will learn exciting facts about their origin and history in connection with the formation of the Alps, with the impact of the great ice ages as the penultimate act. The erratic blocks along the way also tell about the geology and rocks further up in the Binn Valley.
