Park guides bring the nature park to life – a training course at the Binntal Landscape Park with a strong practical focus

How can we bring the nature park to life for visitors? This was the focus of this year’s training course for park guides at the Binntal Landscape Park. The programme centred on specific projects, peer discussion and new approaches to on-site interpretation.

On 27 March 2026, park guides, staff from the Binntal Landscape Park and representatives of the tourist board met in Ernen for a joint training session. The aim was not only to understand the nature park, but also to be able to present it in a compelling way.

The day was structured around the four FOEN objectives and offered insights into key projects within the park – ranging from biodiversity and climate adaptation to regional value creation, environmental education and tourism offerings.

There was a particular focus on practical communication: using concrete examples on site, it was demonstrated how complex interrelationships can be made understandable and tangible for visitors. Among other things, a section of a village tour in Ernen was staged, linking built heritage, settlement development and nature park projects. This format met with great interest and demonstrated potential for future guided tours.

In addition to expert input, the focus was also on sharing ideas. The park guides contributed their experiences, ideas and suggestions and discussed possible future developments – for example, in the area of themed landscape tours or new educational formats.

The Binntal Landscape Park sees itself as a model region for sustainable development, where projects are developed in collaboration with the local community and regional partners. The training session clearly demonstrated just how important the park guides are in this regard: they bring the park’s values and projects to life for visitors and play a key role in fostering a sense of connection with the region.

The training session demonstrated that the nature park becomes particularly tangible when it is experienced and explained directly on site.
