Ernen village tour
There is plenty to discover on this village tour – you'll visit the church, the Town Hall with the torture chamber and the Jost-Sigristen museum.
An experienced village guide will take you on the village tour and tell you about the village of Ernen's eventful past. You'll visit the splendid church of Ernen. In the Town Hall, "Zendenrathaus", there is a torture chamber in the basement, two dungeon cells in the cellar and on the top floor, a wealth of documents dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries bearing witness to the supremacy of Ernen in the Goms region. Other significant buildings encountered on the tour are the Tellenhaus (1576), which served as a public storage building, the Kapuzinerhaus (1511) of the Capuchin friars, the Kaplaneihaus (1776) or chaplainry and last but not least, Jost-Sigristen Haus (1581). The latter building houses a museum dedicated to the life and work of Jakob Valentin Sigristen, the last governor of the old Republic of Valais before the French invaded.
